Myotherapy sits between Remedial Massage and Physiotherapy. It is a physical therapy treatment that uses assessment, hands on treatment and rehabilitation to treat a range of conditions from massage, joint mobilization, dry needling, neural mobilization, thermal applications; as well as rehabilitative exercise prescription. Myotherapy can treat a variety of conditions and concerns, from acute to chronic pain, occupational, degenerative and sporting related injuries. This treatment could benefit anyone who experiences stress and discomfort – incorporating regular Myotherapy into your life can help maintain optimal musculoskeletal health and prevent injury and inflammation.
Dry Needling is the process of a needle inserted into a muscle, bone periosteum or other soft tissue structure with the purpose to reduce muscle tension, improve pain control and normalise neural function.
Yes, we treat a variety of injuries and musculoskeletal concerns, ranging from acute, to chronic, occupational, degenerative and sporting related. However, you do not have to have a present injury or pain to benefit from Myotherapy. Incorporating regular treatment into your life will significantly help maintain optimal musculoskeletal health and help with injury prevention.
Results are completely dependent upon the condition being treated and contributing factors i.e environment, lifestyle and occupational. Most people, depending on their concern, will experience improvement in their first session. Throughout your session, your therapist will outline a treatment plan and establish goals to identify how many sessions are required in order for you to start experiencing an optimal and healthy lifestyle.
If you are unsure what treatment type you require, book a Myotherapy session. All our Myotherapists are also Remedial Massage therapists and will design a treatment plan around your needs and concerns
Please make your booking online at any time via our booking page or by giving us a call on 0405 244 622. If you have any questions about your treatment or booking, we are here to help. Send us an email to: [email protected]
You can make changes to your booking any time either via email, phone or sms or via the email confirmation that you receive when you make your booking. Please refer to our cancellation policy below for more information on changed appointments.
For initial appointments, we recommend booking a 60-minute appointment. This gives us enough time to assess your unique concerns and incorporate a treatment best suited to you. During your appointment, your therapist will discuss future appointments with you including recommended treatment times and a treatment plan. If you would like to book additional appointments or a ‘once-off’ massage, it’s always best to book a 60-minute appointment. Cutting an appointment shorter is always easier than trying to find extra time!
If you have the reports for any scans (X-Ray, MRI’s or CT’s) you have had in association with your presenting complaint, then please bring these to your session. If you are working with another health professional for the same complaint and would like to provide us with any information from them regarding their treatment, please feel free to bring that with you also. This helps to gives us a thorough understanding of you previous concerns and any recent procedures, so that we can provide the best possible treatment for you – which means, a healthy, healing life for you!
We are a busy clinic and pride ourselves on perfect time management, as we value all of our clients time. If you are late for your appointment, we will still provide you with a high quality treatment within the remaining appointment time. However, the treatment fee for the original booked time allocation will apply.
All treatments are paid for at the time of appointment and we accept all major health funds. On the spot claims are available through our HICAPS facility at our studio.
No. Dry Needling and taping are included in our treatment fees.
At Studio Musculoskeletal, we accept all major health funds and have a HICAPS facility available at point of sale. We do advise checking with your insurer prior to your treatment with us, as they will be able to answer questions on your coverage and what treatments they can cover. Myotherapy will either come under “Myotherapy” or “Remedial Massage”, depending on whether your health fund has a separate heading for Myotherapy. Remedial Massage will always come under “Remedial Massage”.
Dry needling is a medical procedure used as a therapy for muscle pain. During this procedure, a thin and sterilized filament needle is inserted into the muscle at a myofascial trigger point. These points occur as a result of musculoskeletal stress or nueromuscular dysfunction. Your myofacial trigger points are made up of knots of muscle fibres, and relate to how pain is produced and maintained in your body.
Dry needling sets off a response in your body that aids healing. Your nervous system responds to the pain, and will then release neurochemicals that can help you to get better.
First of all, neurochemicals like endorphins and corticosteroids are released into your body. Next, your immune system sends white blood cells to the injured area, and these assist in the healing process. An inflammatory response is also triggered by dry needling, and red blood cells will come to the injured site with nutrients and oxygen to assist your healing.
As well as this healing reaction, dry needling also relaxes contracted muscles. Because of the pain of a needling in a contracted muscle, your nervous system tells the overly tight muscle to relax. By releasing the muscle spasm, your musculoskeletal discomfort can be eased and your body can enjoy improved functionality.
Dry Needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Neuromuscular dysfunction and imbalances are thought to be a primary contributing factor to the symptoms. Such conditions include, but are not limited to:
We offer Dry Needling as part of our Myotherapy treatments. To receive Dry Needling, please book a Myotherapy appointment to discuss how dry needling can be incorporated into your health management program.
